The U.S. National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) announced on the 22nd that it has launched an investigation into a Tesla electric truck fire incident that occurred on a California highway.
The investigation will focus on the fire risks associated with lithium-ion batteries, and will examine the cause of the incident and the appropriate response measures.
The incident took place in the early morning of the 19th on a California interstate highway.
Tesla's electric truck, the 'Semi,' veered off the road while driving and collided with a tree, after which a fire started in the battery.
Firefighters were unable to immediately extinguish the blaze and had to wait until the battery was completely burned out. The road remained closed for about 16 hours due to the incident.
The truck involved in the fire was being used to transport parts from Tesla's factory near Reno, Nevada, to its factory in the San Francisco Bay Area.
This incident marks the first investigation related to Tesla's Semi truck, and it has once again brought attention to the safety of electric vehicle batteries in the event of a fire.
In this investigation, the NTSB aims to identify safety issues related to battery fires and develop measures to prevent similar incidents in the future.
The NTSB has previously warned that electric vehicle battery fires pose risks to first responders and has recommended that EV manufacturers develop specific guidelines for extinguishing such fires.
Meanwhile, in the wake of the fire incident, Tesla's stock price showed a downward trend on the New York Stock Exchange, closing at $216.00, down 3.26% from the previous session.
