Brazilian aerospace company Visiona recently released footage captured by its first self-developed Earth observation satellite, VCUB1.
This satellite is a miniature satellite weighing 12 kg and measuring 6U, providing high-resolution images with a resolution of 3.5 meters.
VCUB1 was launched into low Earth orbit in April 2023 through SpaceX's Transporter-7 rideshare mission.
In a recent interview with Reuters, Visiona's CEO Joao Paulo Campos said, "What we want is to show that, for Brazil, satellites are no longer objects from science fiction but tools that help solve everyday issues, such as environmental and agricultural challenges."
Based on data from VCUB1, Visiona has begun developing the next-generation Earth observation satellite, ‘SatVHR,’ with a larger scale and higher performance.
Founded in 2012, the company has gradually expanded its influence by participating in the Geostationary Defense and Strategic Communications Satellite (SGDC) project, in which the Brazilian government invested $500 million.
The main developer of this project was global aerospace company Thales Alenia Space.
Visiona’s ownership structure consists of 51% held by aircraft manufacturer Embraer and 49% by Brazil’s state-owned telecom company Telebras.
