NH Nonghyup Bank has become embroiled in a 10.9 billion won (approximately $9.3 million) embezzlement scandal. On the 6th, the bank officially announced the occurrence of a 10.9 billion won embezzlement case.
The estimated loss amount has not yet been finalized.
According to an internal audit, NH Nonghyup Bank confirmed that the embezzlement took place between March 25, 2019, and November 10 of last year. A bank representative stated, "The employee involved will be criminally prosecuted and disciplinary action will be taken through the personnel committee. Although the matter is still under investigation, it appears to be related to a credit-related incident."
This case has drawn attention because the embezzlement continued despite NH Nonghyup Bank President Lee Seok-yong's resolution at the beginning of last year to promote integrity within the bank.
The police are currently investigating the case, and the actual loss amount has yet to be determined.
A bank representative said, "We discovered the incident through an internal audit and reported the employee to the police. The police are currently investigating the matter."
